Benefits of Powder Coating

Durability

The powder coating process produces a long-lasting, durable, yet decorative finish. Powder coat is much more resistant to impact, moisture and chemicals in comparison to traditional liquid coatings. Powder coat also offers much greater protection against scratches, chips, corrosion and fading over time.

Longevity

Powder coated parts are very easy to maintain over an extended period of time. Because the material is so durable, you can expect your coating to maintain its appearance for many years to come. That doesn’t mean your parts will not get dirty. Dirt and dust will accumulate on parts as they are used. Cleaning with water and light scrubbing while avoiding harsh chemicals will leave you with the same beautiful finish you had when you received your freshly coated parts!

Environmental impact

In comparison to traditional liquid coatings, powder coat does not require solvents to maintain the coatings suspension. Solvents contain volatile organic compounds (VOCs) which can be extremely harmful to the environment. Other environmental advantages of powder coating include: less carbon dioxide emissions and no hazardous wastes requiring disposal.

Curing and Drying Process

Compared to liquid coatings, powder coat requires a much shorter curing and drying time. Liquid coatings generally require several hours to dry to be sufficiently cured and be handled for assembly. Powder coated parts are placed into an oven and heated for a short amount of time before being removed to cool down. Once parts are cooled enough to handle, they can immediately be packaged or assembled.
